An elasticated waistband can add comfort to a variety of garment types, such as skirts, dresses, pants, and even tops.
In this Sew Noob episode, I construct an applied elasticated waistband, which consists of two pattern pieces, to be able to create a casing to enclose the elastic.
In this Sew Noob episode I demonstrate how to sew a closed plain seam, which is the basis for just about all other seams.
Hemlines have been one of the most important elements of the fashion silhouette of any historical period. Hems also helps clothes hang properly. In today’s Sew Noob episode I will show you how to construct a double-turned hem. This hem is also known as a double-fold hem or turned-and-stitched hem.
A raw edge, such as a hem, should be neatly finished according to the fabric characteristics and garment style. Note that this hem is mostly suited to light weight fabrics. As this hemming method adds weight to the hem, which will add too much bulk on garments made from heavier fabrics.
In this Sew Noob episode I demonstrate the construction of a faux buttonstand.
A faux buttonstand is a fabric manipulation technique, whereby an imitation buttonstand (therefore not functional) is constructed as a decorative detail on a garment.
This technique can be used on many different items of clothing, including skirts, shirts (tops), or even jackets.
In this Sew Noob episode, I make use of my sewing machine and the button foot that came with it, to sew on some buttons.
Only sew-through buttons can be sewn on with your sewing machine. You can also create a shank for your sew-through button, if you are sewing a button onto a heavier fabric, for example a jacket.
Topstitching can be functional (making a seam stronger) or decorative (giving a garment a smart and tailored appearance) and is typically sewn with the straight edge of the presser foot on the seam line or finished edge.
Things are happening in the Sew Rogue studio and I cannot wait to share it all with you!
